New Spring Watercolor Sketchbook Series: Floral Watercolor Wreath
Starting a new floral sketchbook series with this Floral Wreath that's a perfect first pager for our new watercolor sketchbook!
Materials
Watercolor sketchbook - this is the one* I'm using for the floral series!
Watercolor palette- this is the one I use from Paul Ruben
Paintbrushes- I'm suing this filbert brush for this tutorial
water in a cup- for rinsing brushes between colors/ adding water to thin out paint
a circular glass cup or jar that has a wide rim and fits on your watercolor page
Tips/ Suggestions
As we fill up our sketchbook with different florals, we can add them to this floral page so be sure to leave this wreath pretty sparse if you'd like to add more florals in the future. You can always do a final wreath at the end of your sketchbook as well!
Steps
Prepare a green watercolor in your palette by spritzing your watercolors with water and transferring to your paint palette. If your paint is too thick, add more water. Try to achieve a tea-like consistency.
Line your glass cup with the green watercolor.
While it's still wet, stamp the glass jar onto your watercolor page to make a circular shape. Don't worry if your stamp has gaps- we'll fill those gaps in with florals and leaves! If you have any messy spots, use a paper towel to lift up any pigment while it's still wet.
Let your circle dry then fill in any gaps with florals. I used a filbert brush to create lavender clusters around the circle.
Let your florals dry then fill in any remaining gaps with green leaves of different shapes, sizes and shades of green. I kept mine simple with long, thin green leaves.
